JATS2Citation

A simple parser for JATS XML for the citation extraction (following the citation rules of PLoS).

What is this?

This is a simple class created to generate on the fly a good citation string for a scientific article stored in JATS XML format. The PHP class extract the information with a DOM parser and make the HTML string.

What is JATS?

The Journal Article Tag Suite (JATS) is an XML format used to describe scientific literature published online. It is a technical standard developed by the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) and approved by the American National Standards Institute with the code Z39.96-2012. Usage

// Can be a URL or a local XML file
$file = 'https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article/file?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0055937&type=manuscript';
$J2C = new JATS2Citation(); 
$res = $J2C->make_citation($file);
// print the HTML
print $res;
